What does this profession cover?

Flooring installers prepare subfloors and fit carpets, laminate, vinyl, timber and other surfaces. Moisture and floor levels often determine how long the job lasts. The suitability of any service depends on the precise task, the equipment or property and the provider’s skills.

Typical services, explained

  • Carpet fitting: underlay, grippers, joins and door bars
  • Luxury vinyl tile: subfloor smoothing and precise layout
  • Laminate flooring: expansion gaps and suitable underlay
  • Engineered wood: acclimatisation and appropriate fixing
  • Subfloor preparation: levelling, moisture assessment and repairs
Qualifications, training and professional checks

Ask for experience with your chosen material, product-specific training where offered, insurance and moisture testing competence. Some floor finishes require careful adhesives, ventilation and protection from dust. A flooring qualification or apprenticeship may support experience but isn’t mandatory for all work.

Always check that the professional has experience for the particular job and suitable insurance. Request recent examples, references and any evidence of licensing, competence or statutory registration that applies. Client Hive is a referral platform and does not itself certify individual qualifications.

How to prepare your enquiry

Supply measurements, floor photos, previous coverings, new material details, expected foot traffic and whether furniture removal is required.

What affects the price?

Subfloor levelling, moisture remediation, pattern complexity, thresholds and waste disposal can change costs. Ask for a written specification, including any call-out charge, access cost, materials, VAT where applicable, waste removal, aftercare and possible variations.

Flooring survey and handover checklist

State the rooms, approximate area, existing covering and preferred material. Explain whether rooms will be empty, whether furniture must move and whether doors may need adjustment. Tell the fitter about previous leaks or uneven areas.

Ask how the subfloor will be assessed and whether preparation, levelling, underlay, trims, thresholds and skirting work are included. Confirm the pattern and direction before fitting, especially if it changes material quantities.

Agree who removes old flooring and unused offcuts. At handover, check edges and transitions, request care guidance and ask when furniture and normal cleaning can resume.

For Worker Bees: make your service scope clear

Use your profile to describe the tasks you accept, the information needed before quoting and the area you genuinely cover. Include examples of comparable work with permission, explain your normal appointment arrangements and provide any documents requested for your profession.

Free registration does not guarantee enquiries or bookings.
